10Tips-Oracle SRMThroughout the past few months, I have shared the basics of the Oracle SRM platform to raise you to ‘Social Guru’ status. If you have followed along, you have mastered Publish, Listen & Analyze Pt.1 & Pt.2, Engage, Workflow & Automation, and Content & Apps.

It was a lot to learn, but hopefully you now have the tools for social content success with SRM! Before I bid my final farewell, I have comprised a list of my top ten tips for SRM users to help pull it all together. Let’s get to it!

1) Read Basics of Oracle SRM blog series

In case you missed it, the links were provided in the opening paragraph. Okay, it’s self-promoting, but these blogs really are filled with the basics for understanding the use of each SRM function. It is a good place to start if you are just beginning to use Oracle SRM and want to become more familiar before diving in or if you are a veteran user and you’re wondering what else you can do with the tool.

2) Watch Oracle’s online training videos

Check out Oracle’s YouTube channel for their SRM training videos for some awesome step-by-step visuals for each section of the platform. These are more in-depth explanations using an example bundle and can really be useful for us visual learners out there.

3) Clean up and expand your fans and followers

In the beginning stages of using SRM, take the time to audit your followers and find relevant fans/users to connect to. I suggest doing this before you begin posting to ensure that your content will reach the right people and thus optimize your engagement. The more relevant your followers, the more likely you are to continue to connect to other industry experts and influencers. Perhaps you do this regularly already. If that’s the case, check out the Topics tool in SRM for suggestions for followers.

4) Document your social strategy

If you’re new to social marketing or if you haven’t documented your social strategy, do it. This should include main messages you want to send about your organization as well as guidelines to avoid any mishaps. This is crucial to ensure you don’t do any harm to your brand identity and keep your content cohesive across channels.

5) Have a graphic designer handy

Including images in your posts can add tremendous visual impact, and frankly, it’s an easy way to distinguish what you have to say amongst other posts. Social posts with images are 40x more likely to be shared – that should say it all! A good graphic designer is essential for visually representing your brand identity and catching the eye of followers.

6) Work closely with your Oracle account manager

When you set up your Oracle SRM instance, you are provided with an account manager for any questions and assistance with your platform. I suggest you keep a close relationship with this person and use them to personalize your instance ASAP. This includes customs URLs, adding additional social channels, and integrating your instance with other platforms such as Eloqua.

7) Create a Test Bundle

When creating bundles for your organization, it is really helpful to set up a test bundle. This allows you to experiment with the platform without having to worry about posting to your real company pages. Your test bundle is useful for new users who want to get to know the system but aren’t ready to post for your organization.

8) Use a standard naming convention

For Relationship One, we have found it helpful to have a standard naming convention to find posts easily. We start with the social channel, add a description and follow with a date (ie. FB- R1 Blog Top Ten Tips SRM 031816). I suggest coming up with your own naming convention for the same organization purposes.

9) Implement a QA process

It goes without saying that social posts need to be edited and reviewed before publishing. Whether your organization creates a Workflow to structure an audit strategy or communicates it directly within a team, make sure you have a plan. Avoid social mishaps and optimize your posts!

10) Don’t expect to learn everything right away

Last but not least, don’t expect to understand this platform immediately. It is robust and always surprising. I still find myself learning new things every day. Take your time and experiment in your test bundle. It is easy to become stagnant, but the more you post, the closer you are to social stardom.

That’s all folks! No seriously, I really am done this time. I hope this has been a valuable wrap-up for my Basics of SRM blog series. If you have any questions on the platform, feel free comment or reach out to us at Relationship One. Good luck and happy posting!
