A couple weeks ago I reached out to my buddy and extremely successful marketer Tyler Lessard who is the CMO at Vidyard. After a bit of back and forth about business stuff, the correspondence concluded as follows:

“Btw, super duper love what you are doing for pre-conference planning. Saw the multi-promotion landing page for MME. Totally taking inspiration from that for a couple of our events. #Transparency” – Erin

“Ha! Will have a similar page for Sirius Decisions, and have a couple videos in the hopper that are 80% generic/consistent then slightly tweaked for each event. Efficient, hopefully effective…Let me know if you want the source code.” – Tyler

“Super duper trooper (and anything else that rhymes super) awesome.” – Erin

Weird conversation? I know. Between the pace of my brain relative to my typing speed, the use of texting acronyms in business emails and being unfiltered (a word my mother-in-law uses to describe me, I prefer upfront), I admit that this is a strange correspondence to document in a blog but it sheds light on my point that I take inspiration from marketing teams and leaders that I think are killing it. This is not to say that I don’t come up with any original ideas. Believe me, you don’t want to see what’s inside my brain at 2:00am when I can’t fall asleep because I’m thinking about the hero headline of our next email. But, I do take notice of others successes. I think about how I can leverage their creativity to my marketing team’s advantage. I try to give credit where credit is due, always. Do you operate similarly? Then you’re going to love this.
